I studied journalism in high school, but it wasn’t until I was using the “News From Home” lens by Jimena Depresbiteris, known on Snapchat as Shimenta, that I got to do my own broadcast.

Along with neon filters and festival inspired wear, she offers a range of funny and interactive lenses that let you share your own creativity with friends. A passionate lover of AR, I learned a bit more from the Italy-based creator.

Snapchat Lens Creator Spotlight: Jonah Cohn

Jonah Cohn doesn’t think Snapchat is going anywhere. One of the his so called “forever apps,” Snapchat has been part of the student’s life since 2013. Cohn must have found an endless supply of coffee because he’s not only a student, but a prodigious lens creator who’s active online in many digital creative circles.

I’d be tired making just one lens every few months, but he seems to churn them out one after the other — each one better than the last! Thankfully, Cohn had time to answer a few questions about his work so that we could learn more.

Community Spotlight — Nuru, a mobile app by PlantVillage to detect crop disease in Africa

For farm owners in developing countries, having access to the right education and tools to aid in crop production is important to improving their livelihoods. PlantVillage, a research group out of Pennsylvania State University, leverages machine learning in areas of limited connectivity to diagnose plant disease and advise farmers on how to treat their crops.
